The OUTPUT Clause in SQL 2005; @@IDENTITY You’re out!
Saturday, December 13, 2008 11:11 No CommentsI’ve been an MCDBA for quite some years now, and since we always had the idea that T-SQL is T-SQL in no matter what SQL Server version, I didn’t pay much attention to all the changes in SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008 T-SQL. Therefore, it wasn’t ‘till yesterday that I found out about [...]
Goodbye to Windows for Workgroups 3.11
Monday, November 3, 2008 13:55 No CommentsAfter 15 years, the curtain finally falls for Windows for Workgroups 3.11. On November first, Microsoft pulled the plug on the first Microsoft Operating System with TCP/IP support. Although the system hasn’t been available to customers since 2001, some hardware vendors still incorporated an embedded version of Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in their appliances. The [...]

Thursday, October 30, 2008 11:52 No CommentsThere are situations where you do not want a user to start multiple instances of the same Windows Forms application more then once. There are solutions for this out there, that require writing some file and locking it (sort of File Share Witness thingy) and solution that check the running processes on the machine. (What [...]
Why won’t MICROSOFT IE8b2 won’t work with MICROSOFT OWA 2003?
Friday, August 29, 2008 1:43 No CommentsYesterday, I installed Internet Explorer 8 (beta 2). Great. It appears to work a lot (and I mean a LOT) better then the first public beta. Yet, there’s one this that strikes me… Try to open Outlook Web Access 2003 (the one that comes with Microsoft Exchange Server 2003) in the beta 2 of Microsoft [...]

Hyper-V RTM Today!
Thursday, June 26, 2008 15:44 No CommentsToday, on my birthday, Microsoft has release Hyper-V to RTM! This time, they have released something before the planned date. (It was initially said that Hyper-V would be released within 180 days after RTM of Windows Server 2008. Well it is within that timeframe, but not many expected it this soon!)

Marcus Murray’s ‘Secret Windows Password’ Explained… It’s not.
Tuesday, June 17, 2008 12:13 2 CommentsDuring TechEd 2008 Marcus Murray (http://truesecurity.se/blogs/murray/default.aspx) asked the audiance if they were aware of a ‘secret backdoor password’ in Windows. Although half of the audiance acknowledged this, the ‘demo’ following the statement had nothing to do with a ‘backdoor password’ in Windows (Vista or XP). What he showed was that, if you (1) can gain [...]
Publishing an ASP.NET site that uses Membership components.
Tuesday, June 17, 2008 10:25 No CommentsThere appears to be a bug in the publishing of ASP.NET sites that use Membership components to a remote web server. If you create a new Visual Studio 2008 ASP.NET project that uses Membership components, and use the ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool to secure access to folders within the project, these permissions are, by [...]
